Vodacom Foundation now standalone entity in DRC

from JEAN KASSONGO in Kinshasa, DRC DRC Bureau KINSHASA, (CAJ News) THE official launch of the Vodacom Foundation as a legal and autonomous entity in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is anticipated to enhance socio-economic development in the restive country.The first edition of the Vodacom Foundation’s Gala Dinner has been held in the capital, Kinshasa, bringing together the main actors of social development in the vast country. It marked the achievements made during the last two decades under the aegis of Vodacom Congo.These were attained after 25 years of activities by the subsidiary of the South African headquartered mobile network operator in the Central African country. The foundation has been an internal entity.”Together with our partners, we have been able to answer the noble call to fight poverty and inequality, ensure greater digital inclusion, protect the planet and effectively improve the living conditions and well-being of a large part of the population,” said Pamela Ilunga, President of the Vodacom Foundation. “Vodacom Foundation’s mission is to actively contribute to the emergence of the DRC as a prosperous country in which the basic needs of communities are taken care of through the proper use of new information and communication technologies,” she assured.In March, Vodacom Congo announced it had passed the 20 million subscriber mark. The resources-rich DRC is facing a humanitarian crisis sparked by armed groups terrorising mostly the eastern parts of the country. CAJ News
