UNHCR response to internal displacement: Legal Aid and Legal Awareness, January – December 2022
UNHCR Ethiopia in partnership with the Universities of Bule Hora, Dila, Wollega, Arba-Minch and Wollo, provided free legal aid and legal awareness services to internally displaced persons (IDPs), returning IDPs and members of the host community with specific needs. Currently, there are 35 legal aid clinics in Oromia, SNNP and Amhara regions. In 2022, 34,262 people benefitted from legal aid and legal awareness activities. Of those, 25% received legal aid, including court fee assistance, while 75% benefitted from legal awareness activities. Overall, of those supported with legal aid and legal awareness, 59% were male and 41% female.
