UN Secretary-General António Guterres Arrives in Addis Ababa for UN-AU Annual Meeting and Inauguration Event

Addis ababa: UN Secretary-General António Guterres arrived in Addis Ababa last night to participate in the annual meeting of United Nations and African Union leaders and to inaugurate the renovated headquarters of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, upon his arrival at Bole International Airport, Guterres was welcomed by State Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, Ambassador Birtukan Ayano, and UN Deputy Secretary-General, Amina J. Mohammed. During his visit, Guterres is anticipated to engage in pivotal discussions at the UN-AU leaders’ meeting, which seeks to strengthen collaboration between the two bodies.

Additionally, the Secretary-General is expected to inaugurate the renovated headquarters of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa. This event marks a significant moment for the UN in enhancing its operational capabilities and presence in the region.
