The Department of Special Needs and Inclusive Education Conducts In-house Curriculum Review Workshop

Haramaya University College of Education and Behavioral Sciences Department of Special Needs and Inclusive Education conducted in-house curriculum review workshop focusing on PhD in Inclusive Education and MA in Special Needs and Inclusive Education on 25 March 2022.

During the welcoming speech, Ato Gemechu Abera, Dean of College of Education and Behavioral Sciences, said curriculum review is a critical examination of academic programs for the purpose of optimizing student learning experiences.

Haramaya University, as one of the research universities in the country, is expected to produce postgraduate programs and research area, striving to develop diversified programs and increasing its intake capacity to address the country’s manpower demand and the University is strongly working on expanding and improving the quality of its postgraduate programs, he explained.

Ato Gemachu added that the aim of curriculum review and redevelopment is to enhance student learning, engagement, experience and outcomes, identify and address gaps within an academic program, promote continuous improvement approach within a program, foster discussion about the curricula within the College via departments, evidence based means of evaluating a program and development program, articulate fact understanding about a program, and enhance standards of excellence in student learning in this program.

Dr.Yilfashewa Seyoum, Director of Academic Programs and delegate of the Vice president of Academic Affairs, opened the workshop and expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the presenters and reviewers as well as members of the Curricula Committee.

He expressed his hope that the program owners would consider the outcome of this workshop to develop staff profession and to carry out the responsibilities in order to ensure quality program and training.

Dr.Yilfashewa also said that the purpose of this workshop is to cater an opportunity for discussion, exchange of idea and reaching consensus for preparation of a good quality curriculum.

The workshop was attended by internal reviewers, examiners as well as the academic community of the University and constructive comments and suggestions were forwarded from the reviewers and the participants.
