Somalia Applauds SAF and RSF’s Declaration on Civilian Protection
The Federal Republic of Somalia welcomes the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) for signing a preliminary declaration on the protection of civilians in Sudan on May 11 in Jeddah, which will facilitate humanitarian work to meet the urgent needs of civilians, under the auspices of the friendly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States of America.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation appreciates Saudi and American efforts to bring the two parties to the conflict in Sudan to the negotiating table and achieve this significant and meaningful declaration, which obligates them to protect the security and safety of civilians and to deliver humanitarian aid in accordance with international humanitarian law and human rights law.
The Ministry also hopes that the provisions of the Declaration and its subsequent arrangements will pave the way for defining a mechanism for a permanent cessation of hostilities in order to reach a comprehensive agreement that meets the aspirations of the brotherly Sudanese people for security and political and economic stability.
