Russia Sees Ethiopia as Key Player in Expanding BRICS Influence
Addis ababa: Russia is looking to Ethiopia as a significant contributor to the BRICS group of nations, according to remarks made by the Russian Ambassador to Ethiopia, Evgeny Terekhin. Ambassador Terekhin expressed confidence in Ethiopia’s role within BRICS, highlighting the potential for the country to influence the collective development of the bloc.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, the ambassador’s comments came after the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia, where discussions and agreements took place on a range of issues. The summit marked Ethiopia’s first participation, with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed leading the Ethiopian delegation. During the event, Ethiopia actively engaged in talks aimed at fostering a more equitable global order and contributed insights that aligned with the country’s national interests.
Ambassador Terekhin underscored the importance of BRICS as a major economic bloc, suggesting that Ethiopia’s recent inclusion will advance shared development objectives. He noted that BRICS memb
er countries collaborate on economic and social issues, promoting mutual growth. Ethiopia’s participation, he stated, is expected to boost its own economic development while also supporting the broader goals of the BRICS alliance.
BRICS, which accounts for one-third of the global economy and nearly half of the world’s population, continues to expand its influence. With over 30 countries showing interest in joining, the bloc aims to enhance economic cooperation and strengthen people-to-people ties, positioning itself as a key player in establishing a more balanced global order.
