Political Parties in Ethiopia Commit to National Interest Amid Horn of Africa Tensions
ADDIS ABABA: Political parties in Ethiopia have reaffirmed their commitment to prioritizing the national interest by fostering internal unity and peace, as tensions in the Horn of Africa persist.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, a government-led discussion with the Joint Council of Ethiopian Political Parties focused on the geopolitical landscape of the Horn of Africa. The meeting was aimed at addressing the country’s strategic interests in the region. During the event, Adem Farah, Head of the Democratic System Building Coordination Center and Vice President of the ruling Prosperity Party, highlighted the significance of the geopolitical issues surrounding the Nile and the Red Sea, regions known for global power competition.
Adem emphasized the role of political parties in safeguarding Ethiopia’s national interests, particularly in the context of the country’s interconnected destiny with its neighbors. He underscored the importance of Ethiopia’s quest for sea access as a component of its regional coopera
tion aspirations, a goal acknowledged positively by the international community.
The discussions also highlighted the necessity for a unified stance among political parties against any elements threatening Ethiopia’s interests. Adem called for responsible action from all political entities to protect the nation’s priorities.
Melese Alemu, Vice President of the Joint Council of Ethiopian Political Parties, noted that the parties have reached a consensus on both national and regional matters. He stated that the Prosperity Party is collaborating closely with other parties to achieve Ethiopia’s long-term objectives and to maintain a constructive role in the region.
Desta Dinka, Chairman of the Joint Council, elaborated on the dialogue concerning the geopolitical and diplomatic dynamics in the Horn of Africa. He acknowledged the consensus achieved among the participants to collectively work towards Ethiopia’s interests peacefully amid the dynamic regional situation.

ir dedication to protecting Ethiopia’s national interests, viewing it as both an honor and a top priority.
