PM Abiy Commends Wheat Productivity in Wereillu Woreda, South Wollo Zone

Addis Ababa: Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed commended the wheat productivity carried out on 620 hectares of land in the Wereillu Woreda, located in the South Wollo Zone.

Enhancing agricultural development is one of the initiatives that Ethiopia has designed to ensure food security. In this regard, wheat cultivation is among the main area which is showing remarkable results.

Currently, wheat cultivation has been expanded across the country with outstanding achievements.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed stated on social media post today that wheat productivity on 620 hectares of land in the Wereillu Woreda, located in the South Wollo Zone, has shown significant results.

The impressive achievements being witnessed across Ethiopia in wheat cultivation are not only changing the nation but also signaling the entry of the agriculture sector into a new era of the modern system.

Several modern farming system including cluster farming, mechanized farming and supply of agricultural inputs have been successfully implemented in
the process of the nation’s wheat farming activities.

Ethiopia has currently been able to harvest 36 quintals of wheat per hectare in average, which is the average production rate of wheat at the international level.

Currently, over 4 million hectares of land has currently been covered with wheat seeds across Ethiopia out of which 70 percent is cultivated through cluster farming system.

Ethiopia’s successful move in wheat development has enabled the country export wheat abroad that has made the country receive attention in Africa.

According to Ministry of Agriculture, about 20 percent of Ethiopia’s farming system is now carried out through mechanization.
