### PM Abiy Commends Wheat Productivity in Wereillu Woreda, South Wollo Zone
ADDIS ABABA: Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed praised the wheat productivity on 620 hectares of land in the Wereillu Woreda, South Wollo Zone, as part of Ethiopia’s broader effort to ensure food security through agricultural development. The cultivation of wheat, which has been expanded nationwide, is yielding notable results, reflecting the government’s commitment to modernizing the agriculture sector.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, the Prime Minister highlighted on social media the significant outcomes observed in the wheat productivity of Wereillu Woreda. This achievement is part of a broader national strategy aimed at advancing agricultural practices to secure food supplies and enhance economic growth. The implementation of modern farming techniques, such as cluster and mechanized farming, has been pivotal in these advancements.
Ethiopia’s efforts to bolster wheat production have resulted in an average yield of 36 quintals per hectare, aligning with international standards. This success has not only impro
ved domestic food security but also allowed Ethiopia to enter the export market, gaining attention from other African nations. The widespread adoption of cluster farming has led to 70 percent of the country’s wheat being cultivated using this method, covering over 4 million hectares.
The Ministry of Agriculture reports that approximately 20 percent of Ethiopia’s farming is now mechanized, reflecting a significant shift towards modern agricultural practices. This progress in wheat development underscores Ethiopia’s commitment to leveraging technological advancements to boost agricultural productivity and economic sustainability.
