PM Abiy Celebrates Historical Milestone with Entry of Nile River Basin Agreement
ADDIS ABABA: Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed marked a significant milestone in regional cooperation with the official commencement of the Agreement on the Nile River Basin Framework (CFA), describing it as a step that ‘strengthens our bond as a Nile family and ensures that the management and utilization of our shared water resources benefit all.’
According to Ethiopian News Agency, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed expressed his sentiments on social media, noting that October 13, 2024, represents the culmination of a long journey towards equitable and reasonable utilization of the Nile waters. The CFA’s entry into force, he noted, is a historic milestone that underscores a collective effort to foster genuine cooperation among the Nile Basin countries.
Abiy further emphasized that this agreement will enhance the bonds among the Nile Basin countries, ensuring that the shared water resources are managed and utilized for the benefit of all involved. He extended congratulations to all state parties of the CFA for their relent
less dedication to advancing regional cooperation.
In his statement, Prime Minister Abiy also appealed to non-signatory states to join the agreement, highlighting the importance of unity for achieving shared goals of development and regional integration.
