PM Abiy Appoints New Ministers to Three Top Ministerial Positions
ADDIS ABABA: Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has made significant changes to his cabinet, appointing new ministers to head three critical ministries in Ethiopia. The appointments include new leadership for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, and the Ministry of Tourism, marking a strategic shift in the government’s approach to key national and international issues.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, Gedion Timothewos has been appointed as the new Foreign Minister of Ethiopia. This appointment comes as Ethiopia faces numerous diplomatic challenges on the international stage. Timothewos is expected to bring a renewed focus on strengthening Ethiopia’s foreign relations and addressing ongoing international concerns.
Similarly, Hanna Araya-Selassie, formerly the Chief Commissioner of the Ethiopian Investment Commission, has been named the Minister of Justice. She replaces Gedion Timothewos, who has transitioned to the Foreign Ministry. Araya-Selassie’s appointment is seen as a move to bring her
investment expertise into the judicial arena, potentially impacting legal reforms and justice administration.
Furthermore, Selamawit Kassa, who previously served as the State Minister of Government Communication Service, has been appointed as the Minister of Tourism. Her new role involves promoting Ethiopia’s tourism sector, which is considered vital for the country’s economic growth and cultural promotion.
These appointments reflect Prime Minister Abiy’s strategy to inject new energy and expertise into key governmental roles, with an emphasis on international diplomacy, justice reform, and economic development through tourism.
