Lderitz Residents Uninformed About Local Green Hydrogen Project

LÜDERITZ: Residents of Lderitz have voiced their concerns over the lack of information regarding the green hydrogen project planned near their town. The project, which spans an extensive 4,000 square kilometers within the Tsau || Khaeb National Park, remains a mystery to locals, who are uncertain about its progress and potential benefits.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the community has not received adequate updates about the developments or the employment opportunities it is expected to bring. A local resident, preferring anonymity, expressed frustration, stating, “Ever since I heard about the green hydrogen project last year, I do not know if it has been completed; we as residents do not have clear information about the project.” There is also concern about who might benefit from the jobs created, as another resident highlighted the need for prioritizing local youth in employment opportunities.

In contrast, Elwin !Gaoseb, a spokesperson for the Lderitz Town Council, in an interview with Nampa, noted a
lack of interest among the town’s youth regarding local developments. He mentioned that the project is still in the planning stages with no immediate employment openings. However, !Gaoseb encouraged local youth to engage with the project by applying for scholarships currently being offered.

The town awaits further communication from the project’s management to clarify the role residents will play and the number of jobs that will be available as the project progresses.
