Irrigation Projects Registering Encouraging Achievements During 1st Quarter
Addis Ababa: Irrigation projects that are vital to drive Ethiopia’s vast development potential will be completed in a short period of time and become operational, Minister of Irrigation and Lowland Areas, Abraham Belay announced.
The evaluation of the first 100 days performance of the 2017 Ethiopian Fiscal Year was held in the presence of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
On the occasion, it was pointed out that the implementation of the comprehensive macroeconomic reform program is bringing encouraging results in all sectors.
Minister of Irrigation and Lowland Area, Abraham said in the first three months of the fiscal year, special attention was given to irrigation development projects that support the agriculture sector of the country.
He highlighted the possibilities of ensuring food security and provide products to the foreign market on a large scale by breaking away from the conventional agricultural practices and producing all year round.
For this, the minister mentioned that irrigation development work
is important and pointed out that mega projects are being carried out that can realize Ethiopia’s agricultural development needs.
In the last three months, extensive work has been done to identify delayed projects and complete them in a short period of time with the required quality.
Attention has also been given to irrigation and the development of lowland areas, the minister said.
The Minister stated that the irrigation projects that will contribute to the agricultural development of Ethiopia are being accelerated during the first quarter of current Fiscal Year.
