Improving Commodity Quality Key to Enhancing Ethiopian Exports

ADDIS ABABA: State Minister of Trade and Regional Integration Yasmin Wohabrebbi emphasized the importance of enhancing the quality of commodities to boost Ethiopia’s export trade during the graduation ceremony of the Ethiopian Commodity Exchange (ECX) Academy.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, the ECX Academy celebrated the graduation of 85 trainees who completed courses in various fields including coffee quality evaluation and cupping, e-trade, and quality assessment for grains, pulses, and oilseeds. State Minister Yasmin highlighted the significance of these training programs in improving the standards of export commodities, which she believes is crucial for achieving the country’s export targets.

‘Quality is critical for increasing export volumes and can position ourselves as competitive suppliers in the international market,’ Yasmin stated. She added that the graduates of today’s program will play a crucial role in the ongoing efforts to enhance export performance by directly contributing to the impro
vement of export commodity standards, ultimately boosting the country’s export gains.

Furthermore, the minister praised the ECX for its dedication to enhancing export quality by selecting trainees from among professionals in the export sector. ECX CEO Wondimagegnehu Negera also noted that the graduates received practical courses aimed at boosting their expertise in the quality of export commodities. He emphasized that ECX continues to support the development of a modern trading system, ensuring that high-quality agricultural, industrial, and mineral products are available in the market.
