Health Professionals Education Partnership Initiative (HEPI) Project has purchased three Medi-buses to CHS-AAU, Dilla and Wolaita Sodo Universities.
Addis Ababa University along with international partners: Emory University and John Hopkins University and local partners: Wolaita Sodo and Dilla University has received a grant of more than $3.2 million USD from National Institute of Health (NIH) for HEPI project in 2018 to enhance the capacity of Health Professionals Education in Ethiopia.
One of the objectives it set out to achieve was strengthening the rural attachment program at the three institutes. To that effect, it has purchased three mid buses that will be used to transport students to rural attachment sites.
The handover ceremony was held on at Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital, College of Health Science, AAU in the presence of CHS Management including Dr Andualem Deneke, CED of the College and representatives from Dilla and Wolaita Sodo universities including the Dilla HEPI project PI (Dr Tesfanew Bekele) and Chief Executive Director of College of Health Science, Wolaita Sodo University (Dr Wokil Wolde).
During the handover ceremony, Prof Damen Hailemariam, Co-PI of the HEPI Project has mentioned, the objective of purchasing the buses is to strengthen the interdisciplinary health education, focusing on rural community involvement of the colleges and minimize the shortage of transportation specially at Dilla and Woliata Soso universities.
“The delivery of such a midi-bus will definitely boost our interdisciplinary community-based training program and we appreciate the project and the University’s effort and commitment for this process.”
