Haramaya University Donates 2 Million Birr to Community Health Insurance
Haramaya University donated 2,000,000(Two million) birr for Harari Regional State to community health insurance on January 22, 2022 in Harar City.
The support will enable more than 3,500 households to benefit from community health insurance for one year.
During the handover ceremony, President of Harari Regional State, Ato Ordin Bedri, said health insurance is directly related to saving lives, adding that Haramaya University has been a great supporter in this regard.
The efforts are underway to enhance social and economic benefits in the Region, he said.
Ato Ordin added that encouraging work has been accomplished in the development of community health services through community health insurance and the support provided will help the ongoing work in the Region to ensure the health and access of the community.
Vice President of the Regional State and Chairperson of the Community Health Insurance Board, W/ro Misra Abdalla, on her part said effective work has been done to benefit the community health insurance.
Health insurance is not only saving the community from emergency expenses and providing better health care, but also fostering a culture of support for the disadvantaged, she added
The Vice President said 19,000 people have benefited from the ongoing work to implement health insurance in the regional state being made to make the health insurance program accessible to all and the University’s financial support will also benefit the low income sections of the society.
She expressed her sincere gratitude to Haramaya University on behalf of herself and the people of the Region for the University’s unwavering support over the past several years.
President of Haramaya University, Dr. Jamal Yusuf, on his part said the University is working to benefit people living in eastern Ethiopia and this is one of the activities. HU has purchased one year health insurance for the poorest families in Harari Region at the cost of 2 million birr.
Haramaya University and Harari Regional state higher officials discussed on the joint works for benefiting the community and developing the area. Furthermore, they agreed to identify and prioritize the needs of support from HU which focus on research, health, tourism, agriculture and environmental protection.
Dr. Ibsa Musa, Head of the Regional Health Bureau, said Haramaya University is one of the oldest universities in the country, in addition to its established purpose; the University is working in supporting to the various sections of the society in the eastern part of the country.
Dr. Ibsa added that Haramaya University is providing support to Harari Region in various fields, undertaking encouraging activities, especially in the health sector and the regional government acknowledge the efforts and will continue to strengthen its activities by standing with the University.
