Haramaya University Conducts Training on the Role of Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) & Capacity Building

University organized training on the Role of Women in STEM and Capacity Building for Female Researchers on June 16th, 2021.

At the training that targeted women university teachers, Dr. Yisak Yusuf, Vice President for Community Engagement & Enterprise Development, said the training would strengthen and improve pre- university students’ skills as well as build their confidence in enriching their knowledge and skill. Dr. Yisak added that Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) Education is a corner stone for the industrialization plan. Universities given the mission of producing competent graduates in solving problem of community, working on graduate students only will not make it achieve its objective as pre- university knowledge and skill are important, as to Dr Yishak.

He said women are greater than 51% of population and play significant role in economic, political and social transformation. STEM centers at HU are planned to increase 2 to 5, it was inducted.

The participants were able to present their own experiences and, together, explored possibilities of transferring their knowledge.

The training was delivered in line with Ministry of Sciences & Higher Education’s direction.

A total of 15 women teachers from various colleges participated in the training.
