Haramaya University College of Business & Economics Conducted Internal Curriculum Review on Two New Post Graduate Programs

College of Business and Economics of Haramaya University conducted an internal curriculum review workshop on Masters of Science in Accounting and Finance and Masters of Public Policy and Management (MPPM) on October 12, 2021 at the University’s Resource Center.

Dr. Temesgen Keno, Dean of College of College of Business & Economics, during welcoming speech said the need for the program in Accounting and Finance has grown from time to time due to the dynamism in the business environment that posed a challenge in local, regional and global markets.

Up-to-date and relevant financial evidences are required to make high-level financial decisions that determine the success of business in the competitive environment, the Dean indicated.

Dr. Temesgen added these services require internationally recognized financial accounting & reporting standards, codes, and practices, together with qualified manpower in the accountancy profession.

The post graduate program in Accounting and Finance, thus, equips the candidates with the necessary technical and evidences. It also helps to promote the development of modern business enterprises through generating evidences for alternative investment and financing options and, for making critical financial decision.

Similarly, the program in Masters of Public Policy and Management (MPPM) entails significant prominence to respond to the emerging reforms in public sector today, public, private and non- profit sectors that are striving to continuously increase their efficiency and effectiveness. These require policy reform, effective leadership and management in order to deliver high- quality goods and services with improved technology and state-of-the art innovation. The Master in Public Management trains the required workforce with necessary skills and knowledge, Dr. Temesgen added.

Dr.Yilfashewa Seyoum, Director of Academic Programs of Haramaya University, on his closing speech thanked and appreciated the efforts of the presenters of the programs and reviewers as well as members of the Curricula Committee.

The curricula must be designed to ensure that they fit the mission of the University, have potential for excellence and strong intellectual leadership. In designing new programs, key issues should not be underemphasized. Among these include essential knowledge, skills, and integrity, Dr. Yilfashewa highlighted.

The workshop was attended by invited guests from Haramaya University’s different colleges.

After the internal reviewers’ presentations, various reflections and discussions were made by participants of the review workshop.
