Drought grows in East Africa; Southern Africa experiences flooding, dryness, and abnormal heat

AFRICA WEATHER HAZARDS

1. Poor rainfall since October has maintained abnormal dryness in parts of Kenya, southern Ethiopia, and eastern Tanzania. Drought persists in Ethiopia, Somalia, and Kenya.

2. Erratic rainfall since November has resulted in abnormal dryness in much of Botswana, central and southern parts of Zimbabwe, southern Mozambique, and north-central parts of South Africa.

3. Flood conditions persist in South Sudan, while Zambia, southern Malawi, southern Mozambique, and parts of South Africa also experience flooding.

4. Ongoing heavy rainfall has caused flooding in areas of southern Angola and across the border in Namibia. Tropical Storm Cheneso has caused flooding in northern areas of Madagascar.

5. An abnormal heat hazard is posted in southeastern Kenya, northeastern Tanzania, southern Botswana, and northern South Africa, where maximum temperature could exceed 35°C.
