Lobamba – The Black Princesses of Ghana achieved a significant victory in the U-20 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifiers, overpowering Eswatini with a score of 6-1. The match, held at the Lobamba Somhlolo National Stadium, saw the Ghanaian team demonstrate a robust performance against their opponents on Sunday.

According to Ghana News Agency, the Black Princesses, led by Coach Basigi, orchestrated a strong comeback after initially falling behind. Eswatini opened the scoring in the fifth minute, but Ghana swiftly responded through Mercy Attobra’s skillful finish just ten minutes later. The first half concluded with Ghana leading 2-1, owing to Beline Nyarko’s successful strike in the 28th minute.

Entering the second half with momentum, the Black Princesses intensified their attack. Wasiima Mohammed, adding to Ghana’s tally, adeptly navigated through Eswatini’s defense to score early in the half. Sarah Nyarko later capitalized on a cross from Wasiima, extending Ghana’s led to 4-1. The pressure from the Ghanaian team resulted in Eswatini conceding an own goal, further widening the score gap. Mercy Attobra, ensuring a convincing victory for her team, scored the final goal of the match in the 86th minute, sealing the score at 6-1.

The teams are scheduled to meet again for the second leg of the qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium on November 19, 2023. This upcoming match will determine the advancement in the World Cup qualifiers, with the Black Princesses currently holding a significant advantage.
