Foreign Policy of Western Countries Based on Self Interest Not Human Rights: Scholars
The policy of Western countries is largely based on their political and economic interests not democracy and for stability of other countries, scholars said.
In an exclusive interview with ENA, Wachamo University of Peace and Security Researcher Temesgen Tomssa said the foreign policy of Westerners is based on economic interest but not on human rights and democracy. That is why they are not condemning the evil acts of the terrorist group TPLF.
Even the media based in those countries are promoting the interests of the countries rather than reporting balanced and accurate information on other countries like Ethiopia, the researcher noted.
The interest of the Western countries is installing a puppet government that serves them by opening the door wide enough that they can do whatever they like without any restriction and against the sovereignty of the nation, he added.
According to him, independence, equality and human rights are not given due attention but uses for cover.
Even if they have been setting the current situation of Ethiopia as agenda and called on the UN Security Council to hold many meetings, their intention is not to find solution for Ethiopia but to pass decision that promotes their interests, he stated.
For Temesgen, the Western unjust pressure on the Government of Ethiopia is neocolonialism.
However, he noted that leaders of some of the Western country have regretted their interference in Libya, Yemen, and Syria where they caused irreversible crisis.
Kotebe Metropolitan University History lecturer, Alemaw Kifle said on his part the Western pressure on the government of Ethiopia is part of their interest to control the continent of Africa both economically and politically by installing a puppet government.
Noting that Ethiopia has been a symbol of anti-colonial movement in Africa, he underlined that the West is working with terrorist TPLF to destroy this good image.
They had been using TPLF as a tool to meet their political and economic interests during its rule, the scholar revealed, adding that this is why they fail to condemn the terrorist TPLF while it causes colossal damage that could destroy the entire nation, Alemaw elabortaed.
According to him, the Western media outlets like Al Jazeera, CNN, BBC, and France 24 are instruments of globalization and instruments for neo-colonialism.
In Ethiopia, they are using the tactic they used in Somalia, Syria, and Afghanistan; which is ‘attack the captain first, and then the crew as well as the passengers will disperse.’’
Alemaw further said the Western countries do not want a strong African leader who stands for the sovereignty of the nation. They need weak leaders that they manipulate as they want.
The scholar pointed out the U.S, in collaboration with the terrorist TPLF, has imposed sanction on Eritrea as usual to punish the people and push them into poverty. They are attempting to do same on Ethiopia .
The bullying of the West is old fashioned and the tactic did not work in Eritrea,Turkey, Afghanistan.
Therefore, Alemaw urged those countries to refrain from supporting the terrorist group for no one will benefit by destroying a nation. It rather creates a burden to the international community.
The scholar finally expressed his deep belief that every Ethiopian will keenly defend the sovereignty of the country.
