First Sky Group Chairman Advocates for National Education Policy in Ghana
Accra, Ghana – Mr. Eric Sedinam Kutortse, the Executive Chairman of the First Sky Group, has urged the development of a national policy for Ghana’s education system. Speaking at the 70th Anniversary celebration of the Kpando Secondary School (KPASEC) on Saturday, he emphasized the need for a stable, non-partisan educational policy to establish an effective human resource base for the nation.
According to Ghana News Agency, such a policy should transcend political party differences and be consistently followed regardless of the ruling party. He pointed out that basing the country’s education on political party manifestos and campaign promises would hinder the quality of education. Kutortse called for the government to prioritize education through infrastructure development, adequate funding, and policies that ensure access to quality education for all children, irrespective of their socio-economic backgrounds.
He stressed that education is not only the responsibility of teachers and parents but requires a collective, deliberate, and active effort from all stakeholders. Teachers play a critical role in achieving quality and inclusive education, while parents need to create a conducive home learning environment. Additionally, the community should value education as a collective investment in its future and monitor students to ensure their wellbeing.
Mr. Kutortse also encouraged students to be proactive in their learning, urging them to be curious, ask questions, and seek knowledge beyond the classroom. Looking ahead, he rallied the support of the school’s alumni for its 75th Anniversary, marked by significant infrastructural development. He generously donated seed money of GHS1,000,000 towards the 75th projects and called on alumni to contribute GHS100 each quarterly to the Diamond Jubilee Commemorative Infrastructure Endowment Fund.
The First Sky Group Chairman applauded the Ministry of Education’s Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) project in schools and expressed his company’s willingness to partner with the government to benefit Kpando Secondary School from the policy. First Sky Group is a diverse Ghanaian holding entity with interests in various sectors, including hospitality, construction, insurance, banking, and bitumen processing.
Okpekpewuokpe Akpinifia Dagadu IX, Paramount Chief of the Kpando Traditional Area, also spoke at the event, highlighting that quality education extends beyond textbooks and exams to the holistic development of students. He called for a collective commitment to ensure the best education for future generations, emphasizing the importance of quality education in nurturing responsible citizens.
