Ethiopian Prime Minister Attends BRICS Summit and Visits Malaysia, Focuses on Global Reforms

ADDIS ABABA: Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed successfully participated in the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia, and conducted a fruitful official visit to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, according to Billene Seyoum, Head of Press Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister. The summit marked Ethiopia’s first participation since becoming a member of the BRICS bloc, where Prime Minister Abiy engaged in bilateral and multilateral discussions.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, Prime Minister Abiy used his platform at the BRICS Summit to advocate for reforms in the global financial system and called for Africa to have permanent representation in the United Nations Security Council. These issues have been consistent themes in the Prime Minister’s international engagements. During the summit, he also held discussions with leaders of BRICS member countries and those interested in joining the bloc, reflecting Ethiopia’s positions on these global issues.

Following the summit, Prime Minister Abiy visited Malaysia, w
here he met with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. The discussions aimed at strengthening the longstanding friendship between Ethiopia and Malaysia. Both leaders reached a mutual understanding to enhance bilateral relations. Prime Minister Abiy also encouraged Malaysian investors to explore opportunities in Ethiopia, highlighting the country’s favorable investment climate.
