Ethiopian-Czech Relations Thrive in Diverse Sectors, Ambassador Kosek Affirms

Addis Ababa — Ethiopia and the Czech Republic’s longstanding partnership continues to flourish in various developmental sectors, as per Ambassador Miroslav Kosek, the Czech Republic’s Ambassador to Ethiopia.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, the bilateral relations between the two nations are exceptionally strong. He lauded the ongoing cooperation, remarking on the long history of Czech support towards Ethiopia’s economic development and quest for sustainable growth.

Prime Minister Petr Fiala of the Czech Republic is currently in Addis Ababa for a two-day working visit, having been warmly welcomed upon his arrival at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. The visit aims to bolster the strategic bilateral ties, particularly in development and investment.

Ambassador Kosek emphasized the multifaceted spheres of cooperation, highlighting the traditional collaboration in hydrogeology as a testament to the enduring partnership. The Czech hydrogeological expertise in Ethiopia spans over 40 years and is now celebrated for its considerable accomplishments in water management, environmental protection, and agriculture.

The ambassador pointed out that the Czech Republic prioritizes Ethiopia in its development agenda, acknowledging significant efforts in combating climate change and promoting comprehensive rural development. He stressed the focus on sustainable practices in agriculture aimed at ensuring food security, alongside the management of land and forest resources.

The commitment to sustainable natural resource management extends to water, with efforts concentrated on providing access to clean drinking water and sanitation facilities throughout Ethiopia.

Kosek also underscored the potential for enhanced cooperation in health, cultural exchange, and particularly in the agricultural sector. Reflecting on the historical exchange of knowledge, he mentioned the initiative to support Ethiopian students in pursuing their education at Czech universities.

In addition to development aid, the ambassador shed light on the active business-to-business exchanges, revealing plans for an upcoming business forum aimed at fostering Czech and Ethiopian collaborations, with a special focus on the mining sector.
