Ethiopian Airlines Targets Over 10% Growth in Cargo Logistics Services

New york: Ethiopian Airlines Group is making concerted efforts to enhance its cargo logistics services, aiming to surpass a 10 percent growth rate in the 2017 EFY fiscal year.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, CEO Mesfin Tasew, in an interview with ENA, highlighted that the airline is actively working to elevate its cargo service offerings. The airline currently utilizes 16 large and medium-sized aircraft specifically configured to handle various cargo needs efficiently. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to expand and improve service capabilities across its operations.

Currently, Ethiopian Airlines serves more than 140 destinations worldwide, providing extensive cargo services that cater to diverse market demands. Last year, the airline successfully transported over 758,000 tons of cargo, which generated significant revenue of 1.65 billion USD from its cargo operations alone. Under the leadership of CEO Mesfin Tasew, the airline is committed to not only continuing these services but also enhanc
ing them to exceed a 10 percent growth target in the ongoing fiscal year.

In addition to expanding its traditional cargo services, Ethiopian Airlines is also focusing on meeting international standards, especially for handling perishable goods and specialized shipments that require additional care. Last year, the airline made a significant investment in modernizing its logistics infrastructure by establishing a new e-commerce cargo service center. This initiative, which involved a collaboration with Chinese companies, entailed an investment of 50 million USD. The CEO indicated that these e-commerce capabilities are set to expand further in the future, underscoring the airline’s commitment to innovation in its cargo services.
