Ethiopia: UNHCR Operational Update, November 2022
Ethiopia is the third largest refugee hosting country in Africa, generously sheltering some 880,000 refugees, mainly from South Sudan, Somalia, Eritrea and Sudan. The majority are women and children who need special care and attention.
UNHCR is a key partner in the government-led Inter-Agency response to the plight of IDPs, leading the Protection and co-leading the Camp Coordination & Camp Management (CCCM) Clusters. UNHCR is also active in the Shelter/NFI as well as the Logistics and Health Clusters. returnees.
UNHCR is supporting peopleaffected by the worst drought in 40 years. We are also helping the government & communities to build resilience against natural hazards, such as recurrent droughts and flooding.
KEY INDICATORS
624,193 IDPs assisted in 84 UNHCRmanaged sites in Northern Ethiopia
251 refugees supported to be reunified with their families in Canada (238) and European countries (13)
Over 800,000 IDPs were provided with emergency shelter, shelter repair kits & core relief items to date in 2022
