Ethiopia, Russia Agree to Enhance Cooperation in Intelligence, Security
(ENA) Ethiopian and Russian agreed to enhance cooperation in the field of intelligence and security as well as other multifaceted areas.
This was disclosed during the meeting held today between Director of the National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) of Ethiopia, Temesgen Tiruneh and Russian Ambassador to Ethiopia Yevgeny Terekhin.
The two officials have exchanged views on various bilateral issues, according to a press release sent to ENA by the National Intelligence and Security Service.
NISS Director said the discussion focused on ways how the two countries could cooperate with a view to help Ethiopia curb the challenges that it has been facing currently.
The director further stated that an enhanced cooperation with the government of Russia is critical to help the ongoing efforts being undertaken in NISS to create a more independent and professional intelligence institution.
The partnership between the two countries is now fruitful that has been tested during hard times too, he said adding that discussion was held with the Ambassador on ways to strengthen cooperation in the field of intelligence and security.
Ambassador Yevgeny Terekhin stated on his part Russia will enhance its existing multifaceted bilateral ties with Ethiopia.
He added that his country is keen to advance its cooperation with Ethiopia in the areas of intelligence and security.
Russia, one of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, has always been on the side of Ethiopia in issues related to the situation in Tigray.
