Ethiopia Reiterates to Elevating Relations with Zimbabwe, Angola

Ethiopia has reiterated their commitment to further consolidate its relation and deepen the overall cooperation with Zimbabwe and Angola.

Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Taye Atske-Selassie, held discussion today with his Zimbabwe’s and Angolan counterparts on the sidelines of the 44th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union (AU).

Speaking on the current bilateral ties with Zimbabwe, Foreign Minister Taye said that the two countries have been working together in the United Nations and many instances.

Today’s discussion focused on how to give more energy and vitality to the outstanding and historical relationships between Ethiopia and Zimbabwe, Taye indicated.

According to him, the relationship of the two countries is pretty much informed by the past cooperation in the African Union and international platforms.

‘Zimbabwe is one of the countries that understands the historical significance of Ethiopia and our contribution we have done during the liberation period in the 1950
and 60s.’

Foreign Minister of Zimbabwe Frederick Shava said on his part that Ethiopia and Zimbabwe have discussed the possibilities of revitalizing their joint cooperation in the spheres of agriculture, mining, industry, tourism and commerce.

We are very confident that the two countries can learn from each other in many areas, the minister said.

‘As we are producing enough wheat for our people, we are wheat secured countries on the African continent,’ the minister indicated.

Recall Ethiopia is executing a national initiative program that has resulted in wheat self-sufficiency, and has commenced exporting surplus to neighboring countries.

Similarly, Minister of Foreign Taye and Angolan Foreign Minister Tete Antonio signed a General Cooperation Agreement.

Ethiopia is looking forward to further consolidating ties with Angola, the minister said.

‘We are looking forward to a strong cooperative agreement between our two sister countries and we will work definitely together for the mutual benefits of the tw
o countries,’ Taye stated.

Angolan Foreign Minister Tete Antonio said on his part, today’s signed general agreement with Ethiopia would open the way for cooperation in many sectors mostly in economy and political consultation.

‘Our relation between Ethiopia and Angola is not only a matter of diplomacy and politics. But it is a matter of people and we will make sure the agreement between the two countries can serve our people.’
