Ethiopia, Cuba to Enhance Cooperation in Agriculture

Ethiopia and Cuba exchanged views on ways of enhancing bilateral cooperation in the agriculture sector, according to Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Ethiopian Ambassador to Cuba, Genet Teshome conferred with  Orlando Diaz Rodriguez, Director for International Cooperation at the Ministry of Agriculture of Cuba, it was indicated.

During the meeting, Ambassador Genet pointed out the potential areas for a mutually beneficial cooperation in the sector.

He further briefed the director about his government’s 10 year development plan in agriculture, efforts to attain high level of productivity in wheat production and ensuring food self-sufficiency.

Orlando Diaz Rodriguez, Director for International Cooperation at the Ministry of Agriculture of Cuba noted  on his part the longstanding friendship of the two countries enjoyed in various fields.

He further highlighted potential areas that Cuba can share its expertise and achievement in the sector.

The Director also reiterated Cuba’s commitment to continued and enhanced cooperation in the field to fulfill the vision of agricultural development in both countries.

Both sides also noted that the two countries have good potential for cooperation in the areas of the development of improved agricultural inputs, biotechnology, capacity building and artificial insemination.

They also agreed to expedite the negotiation of Memorandum of Understanding on agricultural cooperation to take the bilateral agricultural cooperation to a new level.
