Ethiopia and U.S. Commit to Strengthen Economic and Security Cooperation.
Addis Ababa: Ethiopia’s State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mesganu Arga, engaged in discussions with U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for East Africa, Sudan, and South Sudan, Vincent D. Spera. Ambassador Mesganu underscored the strategic partnership between Ethiopia and the U.S. in peace and security, advocating for strengthened economic cooperation between the two nations.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, the State Minister highlighted Ethiopia’s extensive economic reforms, which have fostered a favorable investment environment. He stressed the importance of the U.S. government prioritizing economic concerns to encourage American businesses to invest in Ethiopia. The discussions also addressed the current situation in the Horn of Africa, with Ambassador Mesganu emphasizing the robust cooperation between Ethiopia and the U.S. in counter-terrorism efforts and calling for the continuation and strengthening of this partnership.
Ambassador Mesganu briefed the Deputy Assistant Secretary on
the current situations in Sudan and Somalia. U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary Vincent D. Spera acknowledged the longstanding relationship between Ethiopia and the U.S., highlighting the need to reinforce existing cooperation in security and development. He also recognized Ethiopia’s significant role in the region and indicated that efforts would be made to enhance bilateral relations, particularly in the economic domain.
Spera further noted the critical roles played by the African Union and IGAD, especially concerning the situation in Sudan.
