ECSU Holds the 7th National Conference

Ethiopian Civil Service University (ECSU) Research and Publication Coordination Office organized the 7th National Conference on “Public Sector Transformation and Development” from May 11 to 12, 2022 at Abay Hall. At the conference ESCU scholars, Researchers and representatives from Federal Ministries, Regional States and City Administrations participated.

In his keynote address, the guest of honor, Dr. Mekuria Haile FDRE Civil Service Commission Commissioner, said that the research works conducted by educational institutions need to add value and solve the issues of social and economic problems. In this regard, ECSU must work on investigating the overall situation of the public sector and come up with scientific based research outputs for the improvement of the sector and policy recommendations. He also noted the public offices exert their unreserved efforts to speed up the social transformation and productivity and help the country to get out of the current situation. For this, public servants must play their irreplaceable roles and work on transforming the country at large. He also underscored the importance of preparing a research data center where data are stored and become available to researchers.

Professor Fikre Dessalegn, Ethiopian Civil Service University President, in his opening speech welcomed the participants of the conference and noted that like the previous successive conference the motto of this conference is also “Public Sector Transformation and Development”and similarlyin this conference also,it is attempted to link up the proper agenda of development by addressing in the context of economic reform, urban governance and infrastructure, environment, human resource and leadership competency.Taking this into account, the presentation of this conference covers thirty eight selected research papers from about sixteen institutions. It is my personal firm belief that this annual conference brings a unique opportunity to all of us because of the scope and the people having a wider knowledge and experienced, Professor Fikre added.

Professor Fikre also said the conference is taking place at the time when historic reforms are underway in the higher education sector of Ethiopia. These reforms include the structureand differentiation of public institutions in the area of their forms.In this regard, ECSU is embarking on its role as research public university while maintaining its legacy building the capacity of the public sector. He also thanked the organizing committee and participants of the conference.

Dr. Alemayehu Debebe, Vice President for Research and Community Service, on his part welcomed the participants and expressed his firm belief that the conference serves as a knowledge sharing platform and the participants benefits in their participation. He also noted that a total of 135 research papers were collected for the conference and passing through rigorous review process, 38 of them were successfully recommended for the conference presentation. Out of these, 15 research papers are conducted by ECSU scholars and funded by ECSU. Dr. Alemayehu also thanked the organizers of the conference for their efforts made in the preparation of the conference and wished the participants a fruitful and successful stay at the two days conference.

On the conference all the thirty-eight research papers, selected by conference organizing committee were presented in a parallel sessions and the participants discussed on them. Finally certificate of participation handed over for the presenters.
