Djibouti-based investors are interested in building a modern abattoir in Ethiopia

Djibouti-based investors from various African countries have expressed interest to build a modern refinery in Ethiopia.

The investors paid a three-day investment visit to Ethiopia and held talks with senior government officials, relevant officials and private sector representatives in the country.

Meanwhile, the head of the delegation, Mustafa Jama, said the new state-of-the-art slaughterhouse will provide complete information on the process from fattening to slaughtering to European and other standard markets.

He also said that the implementation of the program will be of great benefit to the lives of farmers and pastoralists by promoting medicine and animal health as well as breeding technology.

Senior government officials also thanked the investors for their deep interest in working in one of the government’s priority sectors.

He also said that such plans would expand markets outside the traditional markets of the Middle East.

He said Ethiopia is the largest producer of livestock in the continent but so far the results of the sector are very poor and more needs to be done to take advantage of these vast opportunities.

The meat processing plant will have the capacity to produce 600 bulls, 5,000 sheep and goats and 100 camels a day in the first phase.
