Corporation Working to Resume Construction of Railway Project Ravaged by Terrorist TPLF
Ethiopian Railway Corporation (ERC) disclosed that it is carrying out activities to resume the construction of the 390 km Awash-Kombolcha-Hara Gebeya railway infrastructure destroyed by the TPLF.
Railway Network Sector Deputy Chief Executive Officer at the corporation, Behailu Sintayehu told journalists today that Awash-Kombolcha-Hara Gebeya railway project had been severely damaged by the heinous acts of TPLF last Ethiopian year.
The corporation is now carrying out studies to estimate the total loss incurred on the project, he said.
According to Behailu, properties, electric network system, and heavy machineries, among others, were damaged.
The properties at different sites had been looted by TPLF militants while fleeing to Tigray, he stated.
The deputy CEO said that efforts are being exerted to maintain and renovate the project headquarters located in Kombolcha.
He added that the next plan is to open project branch offices in different places.
Consultation has also been underway with the contractor with the view to resuming construction of the railway.
The total estimated cost of the Awash-Kombolcha-Hara Gebeya project was 1.7 billion USD.
