Biased Stance, Blatant Intervention of West Intended to Subdue Ethiopia: Scholars
The biased stance and blatant intervention of the West, intended to subdue Ethiopia, cannot grant it a role in facilitating a constructive mediation, according to Groups of Ethiopian Diaspora Scholars.
A statement issued by Groups of Ethiopian Diaspora Scholars around the world said the cabal fabricated lies have blinded the world since the fall of the defunct TPLF-led regime. It has deployed timetested propaganda hyperboles to instigate emotional disgust and manipulate global opinion.
In doing so, major Western news media have simply repeated such hyperboles and lies as genocide, hunger (as a weapon of war), and massive rape, ad nauseam, undermining evidence-based journalism, according to the statement.
For any impartial observer, the silence of Western governments on the far- reaching violations of human rights during the TPLF’s tyrannical rule of Ethiopia for three decades was proof enough that the accusation of systematic, widespread, and gross violations of human rights by Ethiopian and Eritrean armed forces is just a smokescreen for their underlying geopolitical interest, it pointed out.
Accordingly, “It is our view that the war would have never escalated to such an extent had it not been for the blind support accorded to the TPLF cabal once a dependable and favorite African dictatorship of the West”.
“The West kept a deafening silence on all fronts: from calling out the culprit who triggered the war to the brutal killings and massive lootings in the Afar and Amhara regions. It conveniently omitted that hundreds of UN convoy trucks were commandeered by the terrorist group for its war adventure and yet continues to accuse the Ethiopian government of blocking aid”.
Such a disturbingly biased stance and blatant intervention of the West, intended to subdue Ethiopia, cannot grant it a role in facilitating a constructive mediation, it affirmed.
The Scholars stressed that “Once again, we call upon Western governments and international organizations to earnestly consider their position towards the Ethiopian government as it strives to end the conflict in the interest of the country and its people who fought to oust a tyrannical regime and elect a new leadership with hopes of a brighter future”.
Furthermore, it is high time that friends of Ethiopia are engaged in its reconstruction, it was noted.
