ARUA Secretary-General Visits Addis Ababa University (AAU)
Professor Tassew Woldehanna, President of Addis Ababa University, welcomed Professor Ernest Aryeetey, the Secretary General (SG) of African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) who paid a work visit to the University on the 5th of September 2022.
Following the reception, Prof. Tassew made a brief on the developments of AAU with regard to research and publication indicating that the University’s publication endeavour in internationally reputable journals has reached more than 2,000 research results per year.
The ARUA Secretary General, Prof. Aryeetey, on his side raised issues with regard to the importance of expanding partnerships and collaborations among African Universities in general and ARUA member universities in particular.
Apart from the discussion with Prof. Tassew, the SG also communicated with Mitike Molla (PhD), Vice President for Research and Technology Transfer of AAU, focused on research management infrastructure development and policies relevant for data security.
Furthermore, Prof. Aryeetey held a discussion with AAU Colleges’ and Research Institutes’ deans as well as directors of Centres of Excellence in the University.
Their discussion focused on how the Centres of Excellence diversify their postgraduate programs by attracting more applicants from African countries. Prof. Aryeetey advised the directors to reach out equivalent centres and institutions in ARUA member Universities to work in collaboration for staff and student exchange programs.
The other focus area of the discussion was on the possibility of increasing the collaboration with European Universities and Institutes to jointly apply for EU member countries’ calls for proposals for funding.
