Agro-Based Companies Support Ghana’s National Farmers’ Day
Accra – Two agro-based companies, New Okaff Industries Limited and OMNI Fert, have made significant contributions to the upcoming National Farmers’ Day in Ghana. The 39th ceremony, scheduled for December 1, aims to emphasize the importance of sustainable agriculture practices and celebrate the contributions of farmers.
According to Ghana News Agency, New Okaff Industries Limited and OMNI Fert donated agricultural inputs, items, and cash to support the event. OMNI Fert, a local Ghanaian company known for providing affordable fertilizers, contributed GhS50,000, continuing its support since 2017. New Okaff Industries Limited donated GhS90,000 worth of items, including organic fertilizers, anti-snake larvae, and natural baths, along with a cash amount of GhS10,000. Mr. Yaw Frimpong, Deputy Minister for the Agriculture sector, received the donations on behalf of the Ministry, acknowledging the companies’ sustained support over the years.
The National Farmers’ Day celebrates Ghanaian farmers and fishers for their innovative and sustainable practices. This year’s theme, ‘Delivering Smart Solutions for Sustainable Food Security and Resilience,’ highlights the role of farmers in achieving food security amid increasing population growth and food system challenges. The event includes a five-day National Agricultural Festival, Agrifest Ghana 2023, beginning November 27 in Accra. The festival offers a platform for farmers to network with industry players and learn about new agricultural technologies and innovations. The awards night on December 1 will recognize the best-performing farmers and fishers, with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo conferring national honors.
