Africans Demonstrating Full Support for Ethiopia

In the advent of the war waged on Ethiopia by the home made terrorist organization, TPLF   and a concerted conspiracy hatched up and fanned by western governments, the US and consortiums of their global media outlets, African countries and their leaders expressed their full and unswerving support for unity, peace, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.

In a recent development, the newly appointed interior minister of South Sudan, Mahmud Solomon Agook conferred with the Ethiopian ambassador to the Republic of South Sudan, Ambassador Nebil Mehadi in which he said that “Some international media outlets, running unconfirmed stories, have tried to discredit the government of Ethiopia.” He added that “the news stories on the unlawful subjection of diplomats in Addis Ababa under the terms of the State of Emergency is a blatant lie where the Vienna Convention in this regard is respected” The Minister recalled recalled Ethiopia’s contribution to the independence of South Sudan and reiterated that efforts to destabilize Ethiopia would amount to attacking the continent.

As the seat of the African Union, he said, he does not want to see Ethiopia being troubled by the conflict.

On several occasions, African governments have expressed their commitment to peace in Ethiopia and full respect for the unity and territorial integrity and sovereignty of he country.

During a discussion held at the office of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen with DRC with his counterpart, Christophe Lutundula on the 19th of November 2021.  According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during their discussion, the two sides covered a range of issues regarding the conflict in North Ethiopia and the role that the DRC and the African Union can play as parts of the solution. Conveying a verbal message from the President of the DRC, H.E. Felix Tshisekedi, he said, as the current chair of the African Union, the President has been closely following the situation in Ethiopia. He said President Tshisekedi sent high-level DRC officials to Ethiopia as part of the Congolese delegation to show solidarity, brotherhood, and commitment to peace in Ethiopia.

The President of the DRC strongly condemns any attempts to hold power through the use of force in Ethiopia and compromise the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country. He finally underscored that the DRC believes that the destabilization of Ethiopia would undermine the African Union and the Continent.

Demeke said that Ethiopia expects a clear message of solidarity from the DRC that unequivocally and boldly condemns the TPLF for expanding the conflict in neighboring regions and prolonging the misery of the Ethiopian people. He finally appreciated the commitment of the AU to solve the conflict driven by the ideals of Pan Africanism and called on the DRC to support the initiative of former Nigerian President, H.E. Olusegun Obasanjo.

On yet another development, H.E. Raychelle Omamo, Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kenya during a joint press conference with the Secretary of State of the United States of America, H.E. Antony Blinken  said “We must believe in the fortitude and wisdom of the Ethiopian people because in the end the solutions will come from them,”  She rejected any level of interference into the internal affairs of Ethiopia.

The wrong foreign policy currently pursued by the US on Ethiopia and its blatant interference into the internal affairs of the country is indeed against the interest of all African countries and the AU. The US blind support for terrorist TPLF in facilitating logistics support for its aggression on Amhara, Afar and parts of Oromia will not only jeopardize the cordial relations that the US has so far enjoyed with African countries but will also create an extremely dangerous situation for a prelude to a regional war in the Horn of Africa.

African countries are well aware of the fact that Ethiopia is a country that is rooted and positioned on a strong commitment to the causes of African peace. Ethiopia has the largest peacekeeping force in Africa and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed was the first African leader to respond to the crisis in Sudan that flared up more than two years back. The premier conducted effective diplomatic facilitation for negotiations between Kenya and Somalia. It is therefore not a surprise that African countries are now reciprocating for the efforts made by Ethiopia in strengthening African unity throughout the existence of the former OAU and now the AU.

The western powers and the US are trying to divide African countries to tune them into their own sphere of influence contrary to the objectives of the UN and AU charters. They are trying to use aid programs to keep Africa at the periphery of the world economy and to dwarf African continental efforts on economic integration and formation of a free trade area that will allow African countries to use their own resources for their development.

Moreover, Africans support peace and sovereignty of the country for inspirational role Ethiopia is undertaking in promoting Pan Africanisim with its multiple manifestations across the continent. Recently, hundreds and thousands of Afro-American US citizens, Ethiopians and Ethiopians with foreign citizenship joined massive demonstrations conducted across Europe, USA and the Middle East and twitter campaigns on #No More movement.

Currently organized by the Horn of Africa Hub, the #No More campaign was created by a coalition of Ethiopian and Eritrean activists led by former Al Jazeera & current CBS journalist Hermela Aregawi. Its central objective is to oppose the ongoing Western media disinformation campaign, Western economic warfare, diplomatic propaganda and military interventions in Africa in general, and the “Horn of Africa” in particular.

While being defeated at all fronts, terrorist TPLF is being isolated in Africa as its heinous actions on poor children, their mothers and the elderly as well as religious leaders in totally incompatible with Ethiopian and African cultural values, norms and religious orientations.

It was not by chance that the President of the Republic of Kenya H.E has said that “Ethiopia is the mother of Africa.”Africans have historical and political as well as cultural reason on why they cherish the concept of Ethiopiansim which terrorist TPLF is out to destroy.

According to the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed the war waged against Ethiopia is part of the campaign being carried out to deny black people an exemplary of freedom and triumphant. “It is a deliberate attempt to undermine black people so that we will not have our own history, culture, identity and dignity,” he underscored. Hence, this struggle is the struggle of all black people as it is a conspiracy to humiliate all black people and impose the new form of colonialism by kneeling down Ethiopia, the premier underlined.
