African Leaders Should Prioritize Youth to Create Better Continent, DPM & FM Demeke Says
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister of Ethiopia, Demeke Mekonnen urged African leaders to prioritize the agenda of the youth in the continent with a view to creating a better and brightened future Africa.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister made the remark at the African Electronics Marketing Forum held on the sidelines of the Extra-Ordinary Summit on Industrialization and Economic Diversification being underway in Niamey, Niger.
Demake said in his speech that job creation is one of the priorities of the African continent, stressing that member nations of the African Union should provide support to enhance the various schemes like digital marketing activities in the continent.
He also underlined the need for Africa to get its appropriate and fair share in the global digital economy.
If they are not able to attain this, the people of Africa will not be able to ensure their political and economic freedom, he added.
According to the UN Conference on Trade and Development report issued in 2021, the international E- commerce transaction has reached 26.3 trillion out of which Africa’s share is only 1 percent.
