African Defense Ministers Praise Ethiopia’s Military Capabilities and Infrastructure
ADDIS ABABA: African Defense Ministers, gathering at the First African Defense Ministers Conference in Addis Ababa, have commended Ethiopia for its robust military infrastructure and the professionalism displayed by its armed forces. The commendation came during a tour of the Ethiopian Air Force headquarters and the Defense Engineering Industry Corporation.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, the delegation of defense ministers and military attachés from across Africa received a detailed briefing on Ethiopia’s progress in military technology and engineering. The briefing included insights into Ethiopia’s capabilities in repairing, enhancing, and manufacturing armored combat vehicles. The visiting dignitaries expressed their appreciation for Ethiopia’s leadership in fostering defense cooperation among African nations.
Major General Bantu Holomisa, Deputy Minister of the South African National Defence Force, shared his positive impressions of Ethiopia, noting the well-maintained military infrastructure and th
e professionalism of its armed forces. “The country is developing very well. The maintenance of the infrastructure is good. And the military, they seem to be professional. I am impressed with the training facility for the pilots,” he noted, expressing a desire for South Africa and Ethiopia to explore cooperative initiatives, particularly in pilot training.
Jacob M. Oboth-Oboth, Uganda’s Minister of Defense and Veteran Affairs, described the visit as historic and lauded Ethiopia for its significant contributions to peacekeeping efforts across Africa. “When there is a problem in one country, it is a problem for Ethiopia,” he remarked, acknowledging Ethiopia’s role as a pivotal peacekeeping player on the continent.
General Birame Diop, Senegal’s Minister of Armed Forces, was impressed by the modern facilities at the Air Force base, which he believes guarantee excellent training for pilots and technicians. He emphasized the importance of African nations collaborating to tackle security challenges effectively.
Ethiopia’s Minister of Defense, Engineer Aisha Mohammed, highlighted Ethiopia’s extensive experience in air force operations, which spans over 80 years. She stated that Ethiopia’s recent reforms in security and defense could serve as a model for other African nations, offering valuable lessons and expertise.
