Africa Center of Excellence for Water Management Organizes a Workshop
Addis Ababa University (AAU) the Africa Center of Excellence for Water Management (ACEWM) organized a one day workshop at International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), Gurd Shola, on the 26th of January 2023.
Professor Abebe Getahun in his welcoming speech indicated that the rationale for establishing of ACEWM was the need for the development of highly skilled human resources capable of handling more complex water management problems in a holistic, integrated and transformative approach.
According to Prof. Abebe, the very objective of the workshop was launching the Agenda’s of Ethiopian Climate Change Working Group (ECCWG).
Professor Feleke Zewge, the incumbent chairperson of the working group (ECCWG), presented the objectives and the visionary overviews of ECCWG, and officially declared the establishment and the inaugural of the Group.
ECCWG intends to fight climate change threats, leverage opportunities, work in cooperation with different groups like Natural Resource Management, Resource Mobilization and Management, Water and Energy, Agriculture and Food Security, etc. to combat climate change in Ethiopia and globally as well, as Prof. Feleke stated.
Zewdu Eshetu (PhD), presented a plenary discussion on climate change and its global as well as regional challenges. ECCWGs will be guided by rules and regulation of AAU/ACEWM to manage all intended activities towards tackling climate change challenges, he added.
Dr. Zewdu’s presentation was followed by questions, comments and warmer discussion among participants in the Workshop where a number of governmental, nongovernmental and other concerned bodies participated.
As stated in the Workshop, ACEWM is a regional Center for Eastern and Southern Africa for post graduate education, research and public engagement, established under Addis Ababa University in 2016.
