Addis Ababa to Host 13th Africa Internet Governance Forum.

Addis Ababa: The 13th Africa Internet Governance Forum (AfIGF-2024) is set to take place in a hybrid format in Addis Ababa from November 20 – 22, 2024. This year’s forum is organized by the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Innovation and Technology of Ethiopia, under the theme “Building Our Multi Stakeholder Digital Future for Africa.”

According to Ethiopian News Agency, the forum aims to bring together a wide range of stakeholders to discuss crucial issues related to internet and digital governance. The discussions will focus on identifying key challenges, emerging trends, and opportunities to build a shared vision for Africa’s digital future. This aligns with the goals of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the aspirations of the African Union Agenda 2063 “The Africa We Want.”

Key topics at the forum will include Cybersecurity and Cybercrime, Data Governance, Digital Rights and Human Rights, Sustainability, Universal Access, Meaningful Connectivity, and
Emerging Technologies, including AI. The event is expected to attract industry leaders, policymakers, and technology enthusiasts from across Africa.

The Africa Internet Governance Forum (AfIGF) serves as a regional initiative, bringing together diverse stakeholders to discuss and address internet-related issues on the continent. It provides a platform for governments, civil society organizations, academia, private sector representatives, and technical communities to engage in dialogue and collaboration on matters concerning Internet governance in Africa.
