Activities for Enhancing University-Industry Linkages Promising: President
Addis Ababa Science and Technology University (ASTU) said that the activities being carried out to scale up its linkages with industries are encouraging.
Addis Ababa Science and Technology University held Annual Career Expo 2023 today where selected innovative works of students were exhibited to foster university-industry linkages.
ASTU President Dereje Engda said that the university has been undertaking activities to improve university-industry linkages with successful partnerships at home and abroad.
To this effect, the university has been working with partners such as BGI Ethiopia, Huawei, 0101tech and Entrepreneurship Company, Reach for Change, and Africa to Silicon Valley.
The partnerships are aimed at creating job opportunities, market and internships for students of the ASTU.
According to the president, Chinese Huawei has requested ASTU for 43 internships.
The university-industry linkages are successful due to these partnerships, he noted.
“We are preparing our graduates beyond the curriculum-based teaching, for example, the NGO, Africa to Silicon Valley works with us after signing an agreement to train Software Engineering students and they get internship in Google and Microsoft…We work with domestic 0101tech Company on qualifying for entrepreneurship and with Reach for Change for funding students’ product.”
The Annual Career Expo, held for the third consecutive year, has attracted more than 50 local and foreign industry owners, Dereje pointed out.
