AAU Students’ Dean Office Conducts Student Union Election

Addis Ababa University (AAU) Students’ Dean Office held Student Union presidential election at Mandela Convention Hall on June 3, 2022.

Shibiru Temesgen (PhD), Head at Addis Ababa University Student Dean Office, in his congratulatory message said that the election of the president of the Students’ Union was fair and in the process the candidates were selected from 11 colleges.

“According to the university’s senate legislation, the purpose of the Student Union president election is to ensure student representation in all services. For example, when it comes to decisions on academic issues and disciplinary measures, it must require student representation and participation,” Dr. Shibiru stated.

He said that the Students’ Union election will be held every year and the office of the president of the Student Union will carry out various student related functions under the supervision of the university’s students’ dean office.

Mulugeta Tadesse, a third-year undergraduate student in public administration from the College of Business and Economics, said he will do his own part to ensure that student relations are peaceful and strong as soon as he won the Student Union presidential election.

Mulugeta said he will work well with all students of various departments and colleges as well as institutions to strengthen their solidarity with an Ethiopian feeling through love and attentive understanding of each other.

Hillina Asnake, a fourth-year Building Construction and City Development graduating student at the Ethiopian Institute of Architecture, said by the time she won the Vice President of the Students’ Union position that she would play a key role in ensuring that all students should work together and respect each other and build the good image of AAU.

“I will fulfil my responsibility by working hard to ensure that the students of Addis Ababa University consider the institution as their home and are able to pursue their studies freely and achieve great results,” said the Vice President of the Students’ Union position.

Hillina said that despite some misunderstandings between teachers and students, she will work hard to resolve the differences through peaceful dialogues and facilitate the respectful teaching and learning process for students and teachers.
