AAU Signs Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with EBC

Addis Ababa University (AAU) signed cooperative agreement with Ethiopian Broadcast Corporation (EBC) at the office of the President of the University on March 20, 2022.

It was stated during signing that the purpose of the joint venture is to publicise AAU’s multifaceted endeavours and contributions through media-related activities, it has been providing to the country in teaching-learning, research and community engagement.

The agreement is intended to enable the University broadcasting positive and influential messages on the radio, television and other digital Medias.

According to the agreement, the Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC) will work with AAU to strengthen its human resource development, which is part of its on-going comprehensive reforms.

The Agreement also aims to work together to enable the media industry to produce disciplined professionals who will play the key roles in building a democratic system in the country.

The agreement is valid for five years and can be extended or renewed for more tenure as required by the goodwill of the two institutions.

AAU President, Professor Tassew Woldehanna, on the event said that the University has carried out and contributed a lot of research since its existence and is one of the leading research institutes in the country as well as in the world.

He also said that Ethiopian Television is one of the oldest and most popular news outlets in the country and around the world. The agreement between EBC and AAU to work together will contribute a lot to the country’s overall development, he added.

“AAU will do its part to increase the working capacity of EBC by providing a number of short and long term educational opportunities to its professionals. EBC on its part will help our undergraduate and graduate students of journalism and communication in internship, practical education and training,” Prof. Tassew insisted.

Fisseha Yetagesu, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of EBC, said that his organization will continue to enhance the University’s community radio station with technology and exchange meaningful experiences.

Fisseha also said that the new EBC Training Academy will also provide short course education and training to Addis Ababa University journalism and communication students, primarily in journalism, media technology and videography.

According to the CEO, the joint venture agreement has been reached to use the state-of-the-art media facilities at the training institute and AAU in its part will provide first, second and third degree education opportunities for EBC media staff to improve their capability.
