AAU Signs Cooperative Agreement with Nelson Mandela University of South Africa

Addis Ababa University (AAU) and Nelson Mandela University of South Africa signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to work in collaboration within the areas of academic and research activities at AAU President’s Office on the 27th of June 2022.

Matiwos Ensermu (PhD), Vice President for Administration and Student Services of AAU and Professor Sibongile Muthwa, Vice-Chancellor of Nelson Mandela University of South Africa signed the agreement.

It was stated during the signing that the cooperative agreement will be dedicated on joint research activities, exchange of academic materials, students as well as staff. Supervision of joint doctoral degrees, organizing of conferences, seminars, and symposia will also be the further objectives of the agreement.

Prof. Sibongile Muthwa, Vice-Chancellor of Nelson Mandela University during the agreement said, “AAU is a very well-known and highly respected university in our continent and we are very proud to get the opportunity to sign this cooperation agreement.”

She further expressed her hope to cascade the cooperation in academic, research, student and scholars exchange across the other parts of the continent. “We really to believe that African countries need to work together through the vehicle of education to develop our continent,” Prof. Sibongile underlined.

Matiwos Ensermu (PhD), Vice President for Administration and Student Service of AAU on his part said that AAU is well known for its academic programs and research activities. It is generating reputable research outcomes and journals in all its colleges, he added.

According to Dr. Matiwos, AAU is also a member of the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA), bringing together sixteen of the region’s leading universities and they are working together in several areas within this alliance.

Finally, he expressed his gratitude to work and collaborate with Nelson Mandela University in academic, research, and other capacity building programs.
