AAU School of Law Signs Cooperative Agreement with City’s Justice Office
Addis Ababa University (AAU) School of Law and Addis Ababa City Administration Justice Bureau (AAJB) signed Memorandum of Understanding at Friendship International Hotel on February 28, 2022.
The statement of the agreement states, “The Law School of AAU and the Justice Bureau of the City aspire to develop cooperation in capacity building, collaborative research and university-industry linkages in furtherance of common objectives for the advancement and dissemination of knowledge.”
In her opening remarks, Ms. Tsiwaye Muluneh, AAJB Head, said that one of the objectives of the Addis Ababa Administration Justice Bureau is to consult the capital city’s administration on legal issues and ensure the supremacy of the law in the city.
“AAJB is also fulfilling its responsibility to bring justice in order to fetch development by holding appropriate debates in any sorts of court to protect the rights and interests of the city administration and residents as well,” Ms. Tsiwaye stressed.
“It is necessary to ensure that the land use of the city is developed in a fair and equitable manner by protecting it from illegal and corrupt practices; the Office finds it necessary to reach an agreement with the School of Law in order to run the issue in scientific ways,” she added.
Professor Tasew Weldehana, President of Addis Ababa University, in his part said, the purpose of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is to assist the Bureau with research and capacity building to fulfil its responsibilities.
“Another purpose of the MoU is to facilitate access to information for researchers and students of our universities who are conducting research on legal implementation issues,” Prof. Tassew further said.
Prof. Tassew finally stated that the main objective of this MoU is to make the various offices of the Justice Bureau accessible to AAU students for their practical work experience while learning.
