AAU Quality Assurance Office Runs Capacity Building Training

The Office of the Quality Assurance of Addis Ababa University (AAU) conducted a two-day workshop on capacity development training for experts at Sarem International Hotel on May 19 and 20, 2022.

Mekasha Kassaye (PhD), Director of the Quality Assurance Office, in his opening remarks informed that several timely and important topics were included in the training conducted for quality assurance experts drawn from various offices under the President’s and the Vice Presidents’ offices of the University.

The ever increasingly important topic in the area of overall quality management in the higher education institutions, with current developments and updates, was enlightened to the trainees by Mulu Nega (PhD), a researcher in the area of higher education quality.

The issue of accreditation in higher educationwith significance of both national and international levels, for programs of studies winning international students into enrolment and remaining highly competitive in the sector, was addressed by Tesfaye Muhye (PhD), former director of HERQA and HESC.

Abebe Assefa (PhD), Direct of the AAU’s Community Engagement Office, outlined and featured to the trainees about the latest theoretical and practical developments of community engagement and ways of quality monitoring systems in the University.

A senior teacher educator and curriculum designer, Teshome Tola (PhD), delivered his presentation focused on classroom observation, given the dire need experts have to develop their activity of quality assurance instruments for observing faculty teaching methodology in action throughout AAU.

The trainees finally underscored that the training was very important for them to undertake their day-to-day responsibilities and tasks in ensuring the quality of the various functions of Addis Ababa University: teaching-learning, research and community engagement.
