AAU Institute of Biotechnology launches External Curriculum Review Workshop

Addis Ababa University (AAU), Institute of Biotechnology (IoB), conducted a Workshop on External Curriculum Review to announce the launching of MSc Programs in Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics at Bole Ambassador International Hotel on June 15, 2021.

Tesfaye Sisay (PhD), Director for IoB, in his overview speech for the need of opening the new MSc Programs said that the Institute included professionals with better ideas during the process of developing the curriculum liaised with its manpower development.

Tesfaye stated that IoB comprises excellent professionals and has created academic relations with foreign collaborators as well as partners, especially in the universities of Sweden, USA and Kenya. It has established strong research partnership with these universities and institutes by giving courses to postgraduate students, he added.

Although IoB is not fully dependable, it has modest and well-equipped laboratories that can help MSc students of Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics a great deal, as stated by the Director.

Bayabl Atnafu (PhD), from IoB, in his demonstration on the Curriculum for MSc Program in Molecular Biology said that the opening of the MSc program in MB plays significant roles in advancing the field, creating new collaborations and job opportunities for the graduates.

“In this MSc program, Ethiopia will be benefitted in acquiring professionals of molecular biology in advance and as the area flourishes, the country will be one of the centers of excellence in the field,” Bayabl clarified.

Molalegn Bitew (PhD), from Ethiopian Biotechnology Institute, in his presentation remarked that the curriculum development is generally well done and he could realize that a lot of efforts have been invested on it.

The curriculum has learnt a great deal from the last review processes and incorporated many of their quarries they made by the time, Molalegn confirmed.

Various intellectuals of Institute of Biotechnology and invited scholars from College of Computational Sciences attended the workshop.
