AAU Holds Panel Discussion on Post conflict Crisis Intervention in Ethiopia
Addis Ababa University (AAU) held a second round panel discussion on current issues of the country under a topic, “Post Conflict Crisis Intervention in Ethiopia: Political, Socioeconomic and Psychological Dimensions” at Nelson Mandela Hall on the 30th of December 2021.
It is recall that in its first round panel discussion, AAU dealt on “Western Intervention in the Affairs of Non-Western Countries with emphasis on Ethiopia: Historical, Political, Legal and Media Perspectives at the same Hall on 16th of Dec.2021.
Opening up the second round panel discussion, Professor Tassew Weldehanna, Pesident of AAU, stated that the University has contributed significantly to the development of our country for the past seventy years in all spheres of development as well as all round supports.
As stated by Prof. Tassew, AAU has been a crisis-solving University by providing support and by formulating laws, policies, guidance, counseling and community services to accelerate the country’s development.
Indicating the recent contributions of AAU, Prof. Tassew stated that the University invested more than 200 million birr in less than two years serving quarantine services during the COVID-19, supporting low-income citizens, providing financial, medical, and material support to the heroic defence force and supplying food and material assistance to war-displaced people.
“As decided by the Senate, a series of panel discussions have been carried out in this month based on the current situation in our country. Today’s discussion focuses on the current state of peace in our country and what the future holds after the victory; to discuss the political, scientific, social, economic and psychological perspectives of the situation,” Prof. said.
According to Prof. Tassew, the following questions are intended to be raised and discussed in details:
What should Ethiopia do in the time of post-conflict?
What kind of approach do the actors have to play?
How to cover damage in health, education and industry?
How can we prepare for and deal with post-traumatic stress disorders?
How can we strengthen social ties after the conflict?
How to withstand and reverse the Western influence on our country?
Four scholars from AAU, Taye Nigussie (PhD), Asnake Kefale (PhD), Prof. Alemayehu Geda and Prof. Habtamu Wondemu, presented their papers on socioeconomic, political, economical and psychological dimensions of post conflict crisis interventions respectively.
The panel discussion generalized that for any post conflict reconstruction and peace building, each and every ramification of the conflict must be systematically studied and documented, holistic strategy that includes all pertinent stakeholders must be adopted, and AAU can capably play the greatest role in doing so.
The panel discussion was organized by Office of Vice President for Research and Technology Transfer and College of Social Science both from AAU.
