AAU Forwards a Statement on Current National Issues

Members of Addis Ababa University (AAU) community discussed the current situation in Ethiopia and presented a joint statement at Mandela Hall today, 26th of November 2021.

Professor Tassew Woldehanna, the President for the AAU, read the statement as follows:

AAU with opening the door to knowledge, there is no Ethiopian or Ethiopian-born scholar or professor who has not been directly or indirectly credited from it. We have seen many of our former graduates around the world condemn the terrorist groups’ and Western actions that they have been doing badly on our country.

A few individuals have been found guilty of treason and conspiracy to commit betrayal by denying the university’s credentials collaborating with terrorists. We warn these bodies to refrain from such acts. However, if they continue miss behaving against our country neglecting our warning, the University will take legal action to the extent of depriving them of their degrees.

I urge all of you who are indebted to the University, past and present, to fight to the end, knowing that the University supports the struggle to save the country that you have started. Therefore,

1st. We are going forward following our leader, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD,) and marching to the front.

2nd. I urge some scholars to refrain from engaging in such acts, as the main purpose of universities is to ensure peace and development in the society, not to disrupt and cooperate with terrorists.

3rd. AAU strongly condemns the West’s misrepresentation of Ethiopia and its unnecessary intransigence.

4th. We condemn the lies and Fake News spread by the major international media outlets like the BBC, CNN, Al-Jazeera, Agency France Press and the like.

5th. We urge the United States and some European countries to refrain from such activities, as they clearly support the terrorist TPLF.

6th. We urge the American people and government to reflect on their efforts to weaken Ethiopia and support terrorism through misinformation and deliberate plots.

7th. We call upon the international community and nations which are fighting for the sovereignty, freedom and justice of a country, to show their support for our true struggle.

8th. We call on the entire international community to stand with us in the face of pro-colonialism, discriminatory sanctions and terrorism.

9th. We are ready to accept the government’s call to move forward to the war front if necessary.

May God bless Ethiopia and its people abundantly!
